The pathophysiology of peptic ulcer disease is erosion of the mucus layer protecting the stomach from corrosive Hydrochloric acid co-produced with pepsin, and subsequent autodigestion of stomach walls leading to inflammation, followed by wounds and if not treated in time, perforation.
